Emma: Zimt Owner & Founder

I'm looking forward to turning more people onto the world of a whole foods, plant based lifestyle–and know that chocolate is a great way to make that happen.

Instead of taking her honours degree in commerce and getting a “real job”, Emma decided to follow what she had wanted to do since childhood and start her own business.

The question became- what sort of business? A vegan for 5 years at that point, Emma was rather certain that she wanted to focus on this very important aspect of her life. While back packing across Europe the year before, she kept encountering the mysterious and very foreign (to her home city, Vancouver) raw chocolate. She was certain that yoga loving, green juice drinking, Vancouver would appreciate this particular form of chocolate.

So it was out to start her very own company. Needless to say, having approximately zero experience in creating and growing a start up, there was a lot for her to navigate. But, she’s happy with how it is growing, and at the ever increasing number of Zimt loving individuals who appreciate this raw, coconut sugar, certified organic and vegan line of treats.

Fun Fact, Zimt means cinnamon in German–Zimt founder Emma’s first language.

The Zimt Vision

Raw, Vegan, Organic, Ethically Sourced

Emma Smith started off making raw vegan chocolate in her Vancouver home and selling it at small farmers markets. Now, after only a few years in operation, Zimt Artisan Chocolates has their confections in several stores with dreams of going international.

All cacao ingredients are raw and organic.

Raw cacao is generally much, much higher in antioxidant levels than regular chocolate. Cacao beans in raw chocolate are not roasted.

Only coconut sugar is used to sweeten all our products.

Coconut sugar is all good–you dont have to worry about increasing the cacao content in the chocolate you eat to avoid cane sugar.

No fillers, emulsifiers, and unpronounceable ingredients.

Our products are even certified vegan by the Vegan Society, for good measure.

Thanks again for stopping by and getting to know a little bit more about Zimt. Looking forward to bringing you more!
